PLEASANT VIEW, Tenn. — A fire engine overturned while responding to a house fire, WKRN reports.
Firefighters with the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department were responding to the fire on July 31 when the engine traveled off the roadway, entered a ditch and landed on its side after attempting to negotiate a curb, according to the report.
The fire department said a single firefighter was aboard the apparatus at the time of the crash. The firefighter was transported to the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.
Cheatham County Emergency Manager Edwin Hogan said a storm blew over the area at the time of the crash, making it hard for drivers to see the road. Hogan also mentioned that visibility was reduced due to heavy rain in a short amount of time.
Fire investigators believe the house fire the firefighters were responding to was caused by a lightning strike.
