The small aircraft, contracted by the US military, crashed into a rice field in Ampatuan town, Maguindanao del Sur, during a routine intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) mission.

The plane, a Beech King Air 300, was providing crucial support to US-Philippine security cooperation activities when the incident occurred.

The US Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) confirmed the incident, stating that there were no survivors.

The aircraft was carrying one US military service member and three contractors.

While the identities of those who perished have not been disclosed, INDOPACOM emphasized that the next-of-kin notifications were pending.
