US Air Force Revamps Handbook, Drops Diversity Sections – SOFREP News Team

The US Air Force has recently released a new version of its service handbook, Air Force Handbook 1, with significant revisions that reflect a shift in focus and policy.

The updated edition, which serves as a guide for airmen preparing for promotion exams, was rescinded last month and reissued with substantial edits.

These changes have sparked attention, particularly the removal of references to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), as well as other modifications aimed at aligning the handbook with directives issued by the Trump administration.

Changes to the Air Force Handbook

One of the most notable revisions in the new Air Force Handbook 1 is the removal of all mentions of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

This includes the deletion of terms and sections related to DEI concepts, which were removed in accordance with President Donald Trump’s executive order, “Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing,” issued on January 20, 2025.

The new handbook explicitly states that these changes were made to comply with the Executive Order, which mandates the elimination of any material that promotes diversity in the military ranks.

As a result, several sections encouraging airmen to be inclusive and aware of their biases, as well as discussions around the value of diversity in strengthening the organization, have been completely cut.

Removal of Content Related to COVID-19 and Inclusivity

Beyond the DEI revisions, the updated handbook also removed content related to the Air Force’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
