U.S. Precision Airstrike Eliminates Senior al-Qaeda Leaders in Syria – Guy D. McCardle

In a decisive move against global terrorism, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted a precision airstrike in northwest Syria on February 15, 2025, resulting in the death of 2 high-ranking officials within the al-Qaeda-affiliated group, Hurras al-Din. This operation underscores the United States’ unwavering commitment to dismantling terrorist networks that pose threats to its homeland and allies.

The Target: Hurras al-Din’s Senior Operatives

On February 15, 2025, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) carried out a precision airstrike in northwest Syria, eliminating a senior finance and logistics official of Hurras al-Din (HaD), an al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist organization. Killed were two Libyans, Abu Abdul Rahman al-Libi and Fadlallah al-Libi. According to CENTCOM, the strike was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt and degrade terrorist networks before they could plan and execute attacks against U.S., allied, and partner forces.

This latest operation follows another successful strike on January 30, 2025, when CENTCOM forces took out Muhammad Salah al-Za’bir, another senior figure within Hurras al-Din, in a similar airstrike. The back-to-back operations highlight the U.S. military’s continued focus on eliminating key leadership within terrorist groups operating in Syria.

The targeted individuals in the February 15 strike were described as high-ranking members of HaD, specifically involved in finance and logistics—critical areas that support the group’s ability to carry out attacks. CENTCOM emphasized that the removal of such figures directly weakens the organization’s operational capabilities and disrupts its ability to plot future assaults.

These strikes are part of CENTCOM‘s broader counterterrorism mission in the region. U.S. officials have made it clear that they remain committed to preventing Syria from becoming a safe haven for terrorist groups that threaten global security. By targeting individuals responsible for planning and financing terror operations, the U.S. continues to send a strong message that it will take decisive action against threats to its national security and that of its allies.
