Welcome to the SAS Files: Interview with Operator Keith Nell – Moving Out to the Safe House.

Nell tells us the story of how he was ordered to use an old farmhouse as a staging area for operations. It was also used as a safe house for informers and hostages that they rescued. If they were not relocated and provided with safety, there would be retribution, and they all would be killed. The protected civilians lived in converted tobacco barns on the farm.

He reminds us that in every successful counterinsurgency operation, you must protect the people whose hearts and minds you are trying to win.
