Russian Drone Strike Hits Chernobyl Reactor Cover, Ukraine Raises Alarm Ahead of Security Talks – SOFREP News Team

A Russian drone strike hit the protective covering over the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant’s destroyed fourth reactor early Friday morning, February 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed.

While no increase in radiation levels has been detected, the attack has heightened concerns over Russia’s disregard for nuclear safety and its broader strategy in Ukraine.

Drone Strike on a Nuclear Disaster Site

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched over 100 drones overnight, targeting northern regions of Ukraine, including the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.

At approximately 2:02 a.m. local time, a high-explosive Russian drone struck the protective structure covering the fourth reactor—the site of the catastrophic 1986 nuclear disaster.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed the explosion but assured that radiation levels inside and outside the facility remain stable.
