I like flashlights. NOT as much as I like knives, but I like a good EDC flashlight and thankfully there are many choices available to pick from these days.
NITECORE has many flashlights but not all have the bells and whistles the MT2A PRO has. A penlight with the dual power source of 2 AA batteries or a single USB-C rechargeable NL1416R LI-ion battery, 3 different light modes of 1,000 lumens, 300 lumens, and 50 lumens, 3.45 ounces and 5.62 inches long. It’s impact-resistant to one meter and has an IP68 waterproof rating. With a peak beam intensity of 16,500 cd at a distance of 279 yards, it stands vertically and has the obligatory clip, lanyard, and USB charging cable.
All well and good on paper, but the real test is how well do you see in the dark with it. The main picture for this article was taken with the MT2A on its lowest setting in my kitchen, plenty to see with and according to NITCORE, the battery will last 20 hours at that setting, more than enough to get you through most power outages. Below is the same flashlight placement but with the MT2A on its highest setting, only good for 1.5 hours.
Light Up the Room
The flashlight is powerful inside and with a white ceiling to reflect off of but what about getting out in the night and needing shine through the light fog and dew in the air? This tiny flashlight performs well there too, lighting up my backyard and allowing me to easily see the trees at my property line over 350 feet away.

The flashlight is strong and has a brilliant white light but real strength, in my opinion, is its flexibility. In this case when I first tested the light I hadn’t figured out how to change the output modes yet but when I did the flexibility became more evident. I intended to put the flashlight in my truck and that’s where it’s been since I got it for testing and I’ve used it for many things but Grandson # 2 showed me one I hadn’t thought of. Hanging the light and using the lowest setting while doing some school work in the back seat.

The MT2A PRO, as an EDC flashlight is the size of a penlight and can be carried just about anywhere, shirt pocket, pants pocket, belt, on your kit etc or just in the center console tray of your truck with a small pry bar, some pens, and a door jimmy. It will be just as capable if I have to use it with my Glock or to help someone look for something in the dark. The more I use it, the more flexibility it exhibits so I definitely recommend it.
