NAPOLEON, Ind. — Napoleon Firefighter Ralph Meyer suffered a fatal heart attack on Dec. 4, several hours after responding to a structure fire, according to WKRC.
The Napoleon Volunteer Fire Company stated that Meyer, 72, devoted over 50 years to the department, starting at the age of 14, WKRC reported.
Meyer previously served as fire chief, a position now held by his son, Steven.
The family’s legacy with the department runs deep — Meyer’s father dedicated nearly 50 years to the fire service, his brother currently serves as assistant chief and his granddaughter and grandson are active members, WKRC reported.
