West Point Shuts Down Multiple DEI-Based Cadet Clubs – Guy D. McCardle

West Point is going “un-woke”.

In a move that’s sending shockwaves through military and academic circles, the United States Military Academy at West Point has disbanded a dozen cadet clubs centered on ethnicity, gender, race, and sexuality. This action comes in direct response to President Donald Trump’s recent executive orders aimed at eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs across the federal government.

Executive Order 14151 Explained

On January 20, 2025, President Trump signed Executive Order 14151, titled “Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing.” This was one of his first executive actions upon returning to office, aimed at dismantling diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across the federal government. The order directs the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to eliminate all DEI-related mandates, policies, programs, and activities from federal agencies. Additionally, agencies must submit a list of all employees working in DEI and “environmental justice” roles to the OMB within 60 days.

The executive order also tasks the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) with reviewing and revising federal hiring practices, union contracts, and training policies to ensure compliance with the new directive.

Federal employment evaluations and promotions will now be based strictly on individual skills, performance, and work ethic—without consideration of DEI factors.

Furthermore, agency heads must compile lists of federal contractors who provided DEI training to employees and federal grantees who received funding for DEI-related programs since January 20, 2021.

The Trump administration justified these measures by claiming that DEI initiatives from the previous administration amounted to “illegal and immoral discrimination programs,” leading to “immense public waste and shameful discrimination.” Instead, the order emphasizes that taxpayer resources should be focused on “making America great” while ensuring the government treats every person with equal dignity and respect. This move is part of a broader series of actions, including Executive Order 14173, which targets federal contracting policies and encourages private companies to move away from voluntary DEI initiatives.
